The Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) has a luminous history and a prestigious tradition. Its history is inevitably the realization of the noble vision of the founder of the Congregation Blessed Chavara Kuriakose Elias and its co-founder Rev. Fr. Thomas Porukara. Right from its inception in1831,the congregation found education as one of the principal avenues of their apostolate and had been vouchsafed to radiate traditional Indian values of the great sages among the people. The establishment of Monasteries and Viharas (‘Pallikkoodangal’) were the realization of their sacred vision (‘Darshan’) throughout the country.
Porukara College of Education inaugurated on fifth September 2005 at Champakulam is an offshoot of CMI Higher Educational Institutions intended to prepare competent teachers for the secondary/higher secondary schools in Kerala and elsewhere in the world around. It is a self-financed religious minority institution.
